Builder Spec Home Gets a Glow Up

Many of us are living in homes built in the last 10 years that fall into that category of 'modern box home'. These homes are full of all of the latest materials and energy efficiencies but often lack character and architectural interest. This home was bought by a creative and brilliant couple and their sweet little boy, right before the pandemic hit. They knew they wanted to live in the Greenlake area, they wanted the home to have more references to European modernism while also being kid friendly. They were interested in making bold choices and adding layers and textures to create a sense of age and patina. Vintage furniture, classic styles, and vibrant patterns and textures were utilized, complemented by a palette of rich, dark colors to bring character to this home.

This kitchen had some serious hotel vibes & had a cold feeling. We added new upper cabinets, hidden hood, and texture on the cabinet doors plus a beautiful island. We also retrofitted a walnut bookcase into the existing island space. We only replaced the upper cabinet boxes, everything else stayed in place. It's important to us to not waste if we don't need to.

This dark and moody primary bedroom got an upgrade with floral wallpaper & gilded ceiling wallpaper. It really creates a restful atmosphere The couple were interested in adding textures to create a sense of age and patina. We used vintage furniture, fun patterns, along with blue black paint colors to bring this bedroom together. Also, we ditched those little windows on either side of the bed to enhance the area for the feature wallpaper. Those windows only looked out on a neighboring house! This is a much prettier view!

We added extra electrical in the ceiling so we could dangle some little 'moons' over each nightstand. This also cast a gorgeous glow on the wallpaper. Dreamy!
